I really enjoyed reading everyone's posts. It brought back a lot of memories. It was sad reading posts from people like Billy Lake who was murdered on 9/11. How we used to have a million ways to entertain ourselves with a spauldeen (stick ball, box ball, stoop ball). The great pizza. Playing roller hockey in the OLA school yard. Of course, I have to mention the memories of going to OLA. I sometimes feel guilty about how badly we treated the nuns who were old by the time we had them. Sadly, when it comes to entertaining themsleves, my kids do not know what to do when the WII is broken and they think Pizza Hut has great pizza. Where did I go wrong?

Once again, this is NOT a message board. Post a guestbook entry and that's it. If you want to talk back and forth or are looking for someone, use the Message Board or your email. Posts are manually approved and will be deleted if they do not conform to guestbook rules.
Examples of guestbook entries are below. Just look at them and you wil get an idea. Say where you're from, what school you went to, mention friends you hung out with and where. Things like that. No OBITS, looking for friends, selling things, etc. allowed
I hate to be nitpicky but at one time I DID allow all types of entries here and it was a mess. People used this instead of the Message board.
If you don't punctuate, use periods to end sentences, use capitals to start sentences and so on, I will not post your entry either. It is just a pet peeve of mine. It looks messy and I just don't want it. If that bothers you, then please post someplace else. Thank you.

We lived on 62nd ST between 2'nd and 3rd Ave . I tell about, "Stoop ball, hand ball courts, soft ball games, stickball games in the street. Playing caps, melting crayons down, double dutch, Chinese jump rope. Carp guns, Mother may I, even & odds, hop scotch courts and marbles. Hide and seek. Let’s not leave out cards, " I’ll flip you". The snowstorms. Building Igloos, snowball fights, forts, storing up snowball. Sleds , and making you way to Bliss Park . Did we really call it, "Dead Mans Hill"? Remember that one tree to the right. Lots wiped out there. We wore snow suits, mittens, boots, caps, and scaves wrapped around our face. My life in Bay Ridge. I grew up there. I remember the restaurant on the corner between 61st & 62nd on 3rd. My Grandmother would send me to buy a dime’s worth a whipped cream. The guy at the counter would always act annoyed. That whipped cream topped the jello my Grandmother made for my brother when he was at St. Charles hospital for the crippled. I can still remember that whipped cream . Then there was school. O.L.P.H. 7:30 mass each morning. My brother and his friends singing harmony 'Duke of Earl ", in their shark skin suits . I have a picture of them in front of the church. Bay Ridge , Brooklyn . After 30 years I am still a Bay Ridge girl.

Hello again to Bay Ridge, I love California but I still miss Bay Ridge. Grew up on 63rd street in the 60's, went to St. Francis Prep and Fordham Univ. Spent 23 years in the Navy and settled in California. Currently working for Northrop Grumman, married 32 years 3 kids, Jeremy 27, tour manager for Sesame Street Productions, Meghan 26, Law School Student and Kyle 24, Athletic Trainer. No Grand Kids yet, they are all still single. Getting back to New York in October, will try and visit the old neighborhood and finally get a real pizza and not something made with Goat Cheese. Love the Ghost Whisperer references, my wife doesn't believe me when I try to tell her what they are talking about, and why did they decide on Driscoll County?

Hi, Gary here. I lived on the corner of 86 st and 3rd ave and moved from there in 1965. Across the street was the Star deli. I went to PS 85 on Ridge Blvd and McKinley Jr High on 72 st Ft Hamiltion Pky. Had great times in the ridge. I went to the Dyker movies, the Alpine the Harbor and the Lux. Had a lot of great friends there when I moved. I really missed it. If you remember me please send an e-mail. I remember Erma, Patrick, Joe Rizzo, Sam, Tommy, Dennis, Ricky. A girl named Pat. Erma was the first girl I kissed playing some game in the school yard on Ridge Blvd. I was thirteen when I left and I took the train back there a lot to see my friends. Last time I saw them was when we went from the hack stand on 86st and 4ave to the Alpine. I had to leave to catch the Long Island railroad back to Long Island. The movie was a James Bond flick. What a bummer but it was worth it. I loved the bay and the bay loved me. I watched them build the bridge. That was fun going over on the first day. Well I am 56 and still think of the place. I remember my grandfather selling Christmas trees on the corner 86th and 3rd with my dad and brother. What a great time it was. Regards Gary Alfred Nelson

Hey Bay Ridge really enjoyed the site. My mom was telling me about it today. I grew up on 57th st. and 8th ave, over Terry's Tavern. Moved away in 1990 fortunate for me last few times I was there(the neighborhood) the place was not the same at all. It was great to go by shore road, owls head park and Ft. Hamilton park and of course had to have the pizza...lots of pizza!!!!!!I was still a pup when I left only a freshman out of FDR High School. Don't miss the smog but miss the people, Pizza and seasons for sure. Miss being a kid and playing in the fire hidrants there are so many memories that no one in other locations would experience. Never forget the haloweens with the shaving cream and eggs!!

Spring has finally sprung way up in the White Mts! The mountains are so beautiful decked out in all their greenery, with the high northern areas still have the peaks of white. The rivers are all high and flowing quickly from the spring thaw. Recently I drove up my old street (72nd bet Col.& Narrows)
and saw the new trees planted after the tornado took the old ones and thought about how much I love Bay Ridge and what a great place for my entire generations of family to have lived and died. There will always be a warm place in my heart for Bay Ridge and all my memories. Thank-you Bay Ridge-Thank-you

When I got married I moved to Queens. I later had a baby and eventually divorced. I wanted to come back to Brooklyn because I missed the community neighborhood feeling and wanted to raise my daughter in a family atmosphere around people who weren't TOO liberal although I myself was. I could think of no other neighborhood in Brooklyn that had that. So in 1991 we came to Bay Ridge. I of course knew the area well since the 70's and loved all the treelined streets and homes... and the 'ginger bread house" at 83 Street and Narrows. I have been out and around here at all times of the day and night and have always felt safe. You never have to leave Bay Ridge to go out on the town as we have numerous restaurants (restaurant row on 3rd ave and 5th ave, bars and more and indeed some people do just about everything right here. The Ridge is a blessing and so are the many varied people who live here.
