Friends and good times / Re: Bay Ridge in the 70s
« on: February 28, 2016, 11:50:25 AM »
No one seems to want to use this Message Board any more. Facebook has taken over and I guess this doesn't interest them. It used to be busy before Facebook. Would be nice to get it going again. I always had a Message Board here. It got out of hand with cursing and arguing and I banned the trouble makers.

They seemed to think the could do whatever they wanted. One of them started a new site, bayridgetalk.com and said he wasn't going to ban or censor anyone. That didn't last too long before he started to do the same as I did, ban and censor troublemakers. He soon had to give it up as well and the site is dead now.

He started it on facebook, but it looks like that too isn't working out so well. There are just a few people who cannot play by the rules that everyone else does and ruin it for everyone.

I'll try this again and see if we can get some of the nice people back here to reminisce again about the good old days and present Bay Ridge neighborhood.

It was actually between 84th and 85th but who cares. They were the best around then. After that I went to Lai Yueng on 100th street and 4th Ave. Not sure of spelling. They were expensive though.

It's still there if it's the one you're talking about. Right across from the old Kilcar House which is now Lone Star. There was a liquor store on the corner next to it. Don't know the name of it.

I was a big fan of the Shore Road Chinese restaurant in the middle of 86th street between 4th and 5th avenues opposite where McDonalds is now.

You're wrong about seeing police cars. I see them everyday at the bagel shops. They're on 5th Ave and 86th street parked on the corner waiting for drivers to make a left turn. I've seen them ticketing UPS trucks for illegal parking to deliver packages. Everyone knows that UPS has a deal with the city no matter how many tickets they get so the ticket is just a waste of time but counts to their quota.

I don't know how many cars are in the 68 precinct but they sure are scarce. People blow through red lights, stops signs and speed down side streets. It's just a matter of time before someone gets killed. I see them leaving the bagels stores but don't know where they go then. Very rare to see them patrolling the neighborhood.

Don't care. I don't take trains or buses and never have. Just kidding, but I really don't know what it's like, so can't give you an opinion.

It's a filthy disgusting habit. Sometimes you have to but you should do it in the the street. I see people outside of restaurants and other businesses smoking and spitting right there on the sidewalk. You people that do this are filthy disgusting slobs. You're not alone Cranky.

General Discussion / Re: Bay Ridge Drivers / Speeding Cameras
« on: August 19, 2014, 08:00:28 PM »
You're right. We don't need cameras, what we need are cops driving up and down the Avenues in unmarked cars. Of course they're not going to catch someone with a bright white  car with markings all over them that can be seen for miles.

I think the same thing when I'm driving on parkways or highways.  Speeders slow down and those guys who go in and out of lanes stop doing it when they see a patrol cars. Put unmarked cars on the parkways and highways and they would catch someone every few minutes.

Seems like all they want to do is park somewhere with a radar detector and nab them that way. They would get a lot more in unmarked cars but maybe they don't want to.

No you're not the only one but try to find a cop around here unless you make a right turn on 86th street or something. I can't remember the last time I saw them driving up and down 3rd and 5th Avenues. I wonder how many cars we have in bay Ridge and where do they go?

Also makes a difference where you live. Some areas have more slobs than other areas. I've seen people, or should I say PIGS, toss paper on the ground while they're standing next to a trash can.

General Discussion / Re: What to do with wild kittens in yard
« on: June 18, 2014, 09:07:35 AM »
Caught three of them and brought them to Animal Control on Linden Blvd. They'll probably get adopted since there weren't many kittens out there, mostly older cats. Haven't seen the other two, so I guess they got homes nearby.

General Discussion / Alternate side parking
« on: June 17, 2014, 09:24:16 AM »
Handicap plates do NOT allow you to park on wrong side when there is alternate side parking. I have this ahole who thinks it is okay. He parks away from his house around the corner so he doesn't give a crap if the street gets cleaned. You also cannot park in a Loading Zone with handicap plates or stickers. There are many legitimate handicap plates but most I've seen are perfectly healthy looking to me. How do they get these plates?

I have a bunch of kittens in my backyeard about 2 months old I guess. I wanted to catch them an give them to a shelter for adoption. I called Muffins, but they were no help at all. Their answer was to do a search on kittens and shelters. I thought it was such a great organization.

Then I called 311. They said if the mother seems to be taking care of them, they can't do anything. So I said the mother wasn't and then they finally gave me a place to bring them. They also said if could catch the mother to bring it along with kittens.

Anyway, there are 3 black and grey striped ones and 2 black ones. Anyone want t free kitten or kittens? Use Contact link above and let me know.

Friends and good times / Guestbook
« on: April 02, 2014, 02:55:31 PM »
For those of you who might not know it, we have a great Guestbook on BayRidge.com.

It has over 4000 entries and goes back over 15 years. It's one thing I never lost when changing servers or bulletin boards.

It has a nice search feature that lets you search by almost anything; first or last name, nicknames, schools, businesses and stores, streets, etc. Check it out by clicking on link below. It will open a new browser window and this one will still be open underneath. Just close Guestbook when you're done and you'll be right back here.

You might be surprised at some of the people you'll find there.

General Discussion / New board
« on: April 02, 2014, 02:39:30 PM »
Hi. I had to get rid of old board because of too many problems with it. This one looks a lot easier to maintain and use. I'll try to get member userids over to this board, but it wold be easier for you to just register again. My apologies.

You can post any problems here for now. Thanks, Bre.
