General Discussion / Re: Lamps of China
« Last post by B on January 31, 2018, 04:16:15 PM »
First time in this site but I saw my old favorite Chinese restaurant, The Lamps of China,  used to go there often.  It was definitely on Third Avenue between 93rd and 94th. Streets.  On the corner of 93rd. was a bakery, and if I can remember correctly there was a pizzeria on the corner of 94th.  I loved the Lamps of China, you can not get chow mein like that anywhere today.  Today its watery and just awful, everywhere you go.  That place was the best and I still miss it. The whole neighborhoods changed.  Even Mike's deli on that very same block is gone as of this past year.  Another great establishment.

The Lamps Of China was on 3rd Avenue between 93rd and 94th Street.  Today there is a Rite Aid at the same location.  It hard to believe that anyone would open a restaurant that big today.  The times they did change.

General Discussion / Growing up in Bay Ridge
« Last post by simonelmc on May 05, 2016, 04:04:09 PM »
My mom's family grew up on Marine Avenue and 98th, in number 208, a little house between the taller apartment buildings at the top of the block. She and her brothers and sister went to Saint Patricks. As a journalism graduate student, I've spent the past three months reconstructing what happened to their family in 1966, and Bay Ridge is very much a character in that story. I read posts on this page from people with dear memories of growing up in the neighborhood, so I wanted to share the story here and ask you to share your stories with me. http://projectwordsworth.com/home-alone/

I was trying to find out info on two bars from around 1957- 1962. The Stone House and the Bird Cage. I believe owner was Norwegian woman named Ragna and Norwegian woman worked for her was Ingfrid K Hansen Triggs. Does anybody remember them or the bars?
